HISTORY
It is first discovered in 1930 when the acute respiratory infections of chickens. In the 1940s two more animal coronavirus was lonesome. Then human coronavirus was discovered in the 1960s and isolated from a boy a novel common cold virus B814 and then many similar viruses like SARS-CoV in 2003, HCoV NL63 in 2004, HCoV HKU1 in 2005, MERS-CoV in 2012 are discovered. But now we have one of the dangerous ones SARS-CoV-2 in 2019.
STRUCTURE
Coronaviruses contain a positive-sense, single-stranded RNA genome. The genome organization for a coronavirus is 5′-leader-UTR-replicase/transcriptase-spike (S)-envelope (E)-membrane (M)-nucleocapsid (N)-3′UTR-poly (A) tail. and a complex biological process goes on and we are not looking into it deeply.
Its typical structure made it a tough one to encounter and researchers from all over the world are working hard to find the vaccine.
TRANSMISSION
The virus is spread primarily by close contact and by small droplets produced during coughing, sneezing, and talking. Studies found that it can spread up to 6 meters.
As these droplets when present on the surface; the people get infected when they touch the surface and then their eyes, nose, or mouth. The virus survives for hours to days on surfaces. Coronavirus mainly targets the epithelial cells (a basic type of animal issue ) and infects via the aerosol route.
